Hair Transplant Surgeon & MHR Patient
 Driven by a passion for research and a family history of hair loss, Dr. Barusco began pursuing hair restoration surgery as his specialty shortly after completing his residency in General Surgery. In 1997, he relocated to the United States, from Brazil, and began working for Medical Hair Restoration as a surgeon while also conducting in-depth research studies to advance the field of surgical hair restoration. Nonetheless, Dr. Barusco's compassion for his patients stems from his own personal experience with hair loss and hair transplantation. "Every man in my family is bald," said Dr. Barusco, "I was always curious as to the available treatments for hair loss, especially as my hair began thinning. I've had two hair transplantation procedures and it's great not to have to worry about my hair anymore. I'm proud to show my results to my patients because I truly believe in hair transplantation."
Seeking to perfect his surgical skills, Dr. Barusco applied for the prestigious MHR fellowship in Hair Transplantation Surgery. Upon his acceptance into the coveted program, he began training under the direction of Dr. Matt Leavitt, the Founder and Medical Director of Medical Hair Restoration. "When you are trying to obtain knowledge and experience in a medical specialty,you want to make sure that your mentors are the best in the area, and that there are opportunities for you to develop and improve as a physician," Dr. Barusco said, "The solid and strong reputation of MHR and Dr. Leavitt, and the quality of his work were the main elements that attracted me to the Fellowship."
As a very inquisitive person, Dr. Barusco has been heavily involved with research studies that keep him on top of the latest developments in hair restoration. He was awarded research grants from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and Merck Pharmaceuticals. His work was later published in the Journal of the International Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Barusco has also appeared in a documentary film, entitled The Hair Story, as a hair restoration expert. In addition, he has served as a Co-Chairman, helping to coordinate the Live Surgery Workshop, an internationally renowned medical symposium, which focuses on the progressive development of hair transplantation surgery.
Dr. Barusco's top priority as a physician has always been to build a strong relationship with his patients in order to offer them the best treatment available. By listening closely to his patients concerns and stories, he is better able to help them set and achieve reasonable hair restoration goals. "I think the most rewarding aspect of performing hair restoration surgery is that you are able to provide the patients with a solution to a problem that sometimes is severe enough that it interferes with their professional and personal lives," stated Dr. Barusco, "But, what I love the most is to see the patients after surgery, and take part in their excitement and happiness."
